The Champawat, one of the 13 districts in Uttarakhand has always been identified by its special historical relevance and religious importance since “ puranic Age (पुराण् काल)” The region has acclaimed national and international recognition as its mention is found in the Manas Khanda of Skanda Purana and more recently in Jim Corbett’s Man Eaters Of Kumaun. One can have nearly complete knowledge of the region by going through Pundit Badri Datt Pandey’s noted treatise called “The History of Kumaun”. Champawat where Golu Devta ( गोरल देवता), the deity of justice, as he is being called in the vernacular, bless its flora and fauna. The city has a group of seven temples, so it is also known by the name Sapteshwara namely- baleshwara, dipteshwara, Kranteshwara, Malladeshwara, Tadkeshwara, Risheshwara and Maneshwara. Since ages, these have been the centre of religious activities and ritualistic worship. Established in 14 April 1996, the college started with six departments i.e. Economics, English, Hindi, History, Political Science and Sociology with only 36 students and 2 teachers, in a small rented building at ‘Malli Haat’ . It was only after Champawat attained the status of a district on 15 September 1997 that the, then Uttar Pradesh Government noticed the potential quarters where in development could be made. The small sapling planted on 05 September 2001 in its own campus (situated at about 4 km from bus station towards Tanakpur on national highway no. 125) has, since then, fully grown up. Its ideal locale with lush green pine and oak add to the ambience which is perfectly suited for the grooming and scanning of the young minds that are yet to carve a niche for themselves in the competitive world out there. The imposing main structure of the college building where the administrative block exists, reminds one of the bygone days when the concrete jungle had not marred the beauty of nature.
The college is situated on the Banks of local river "Gandak" about 4 KM from Champawat Bus Station towards Tanakpur road on the NH( National Highway) no. 125. One can reach Champawat by road via Tanakpur OR via Haldwani – Bheemtal road. The nearest Rail Head is Tanakpur for haldwani- bheemtaal route nearest rail head is Kathgodam. ( read more )
